Rob Mello
London based DJ and Producer; Rob Mello has recorded, produced, and remixed a diverse catalogue of releases since 1992. One of his guises was the pioneering disco and house duo Disco Elements/ Sensory Productions, Previously signed to Azuli Records. Rob was also co-founder of the saucy house label Luxury Service and produced the first Black Science Orchestra single with Ashley Beedle, “Where were you”, released on the legendary London house label, Boys Own. Since then Rob has been appearing regularly on Classic Records and after 10 years of releases for this label has produced the very last release on this ground breaking label. Rob has also made the move into film score work. In 1999 Rob, with Matthew Herbert, was responsible for writing all the incidental music on the UK club culture movie, Human Traffic for which they were up for nomination for a BAFTA. Rob has been DJing since 1986 and has pioneered his own style that is much in demand with various regular appearances and residences all over the world, far too many to mention! Rob appeared regularly on Classic Records for 10 years. He is also Heaven and Earth alongside Luke Solomon and Zaki Dee who released “Prescription Every night” on Chez Damier and Ron Trent’s Prescription Records hailing from Chicago. This was later released again in 2009 on Running Back records. Rob also has his own imprint “Disco 45″ which has released music by Robert Owens, Mugwump, Lil Mark, Luke Solomon and Jonny Rock (Freaks) and is about embark on a new label with old time partner Zaki Dee. This will encompass everything wonderful that they brought to Luxury Service. Back in the 80’s Rob wanted to learn everything about his art so what better then to build his own soundsystem from scratch. Taking influences from the reggae sound systems of the day. Playing blues parties, nottinghill carnival and warehouse raves. Rob honed his skills djing alongside Ashley Beedle and Shock Sound System playing clubs and raves around London. In the 90’s Rob played regularly at the legendary Space club at Bar Rhumba and “Friday’s r’ Firin” Plastic People. A 10 year residency at the End nightclub with Derrick Carter and Luke Solomon.. Rob also had his own show on Girls FM in the 90’s where he first met Kenny Hawkes. Since then playing at Fabric and having a 5 year residency at the Tea Rooms in Shorditch and regularly playing around the world.
