Gilla
Gilla is the label manager / A & R of First Word Records, home to some of the finest Hip Hop, Funk, Soul & Beats in Europe. With acts including The Haggis Horns, Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra, The Simonsound, kidkanevil, Homecut, Souleance and 6ix Toys the label is going from strength to strength.
Last September saw the release of his first mix album, with a retrospective of the label to celebrate First Word’s 5th Birthday. Gilla is resident at New Bo as well as legendary Leeds club The Hifi (Sunday Joint and Funk Soul Nation). He also holds down a regular spot at London’s Marketplace with kidkanevil (Geek Down), and at Brick Lane’s Vibe Bar, as well as regular spots at Big Chill Bar and The Jazz Cafe. Expect a mix of hip hop, funk, reggae and beats.
