Monkey gloo records is a collective of established professional djs, audio engineers and music producers. After the success of performing at last year’s Limetree festival, the monkey gloo team are returning with more djs and a wider range of genres.

Rich Cawthorne

Since starting as a DJ in 1995, he’s been in and around the clubbing scene ever since. For the last few years Rich has been based in Hull mainly involved in the hard dance scene, but can turn his hand to any genre. Always full of energy, and never without a smile on his face when behind the decks, this energy shows through in his sets as they are always lively and guaranteed to entertain!!

Top Dollar

New to monkey gloo records this year, Top Dollar has spent the last 15 years DJing in the Midlands and London, playing everything from Old Skool Hardcore, Drum n Bass, Funky Breakbeat, Deep Electro and Tech House. This has just increased Top Dollar’s passion for tunes that make the dance floor bounce.

Simon Barker

After a residency at Gorms Garage in Ibiza from 1998, the next 3 years on the White Isle saw Simon DJ all over Ibza at places such as the home of Manumission, Privilege and Eden. Djing on nights such as Judgement Sundays, Sundissential, Dave Pierce Dance Anthems and MTV. Simon is returning to Limetree playing electronic, twisted and extremely filthy house.

Tim Ellis

Having spent the last sixteen years involved in music production, recording and mastering, he’s produced two albums to date of his own dance music and he’s been DJ’ing for the last twelve years across England. From residencies in Leeds, Reading and Hull, to hosting dance nights across Yorkshire, Tim returns to Limetree with his eclectic mix of funky house, dirty disco, hard house, trance and dirty electro.

Dj gloo

Another new addition to monkey gloo records, Dj gloo has been DJ’ing for the last ten years around most of North Yorkshire. Starting out in small, member only, hard house clubs in Leeds, his DJ’ing skills shine through to bigger crowds. At home playing filthy house, drum and bass, dub step, psychedelic trance or hard house, his sets promise to be bangin

MarsMusic are Mark and Maria. Raised in southern-Africa with strong Dutch, English and Portuguese roots, this London-based duo bring fusion to a whole new level. Their mix of culture, experience and genres leads to a sound that can only be described as “FolkRockTronica” (the name of their debut album, to be released early 2012.)

After a traumatic immigration to the northern hemisphere, and many years of struggling along the tides of a stressful London rat-race, Mark and Maria fatefully met. They shared their disillusionment with the futile survival of life in the big cold city, and they shared a common dream: to express their life journey and African memories through music. And so MarsMusic was formed in January 2010 and has since been performing regularly on the London circuit, most notably at The Monto Water Rats in King’s Cross, and at the Crisis Christmas charity gig for the homeless on Christmas day 2010.

Maria’s melodically mesmerizing vocals and rhythm guitar lift her listeners up above impenetrable grey clouds to the vast blue skies above. Mark’s deep grounded bass and electronic beats and percussion provide the sturdy vehicle which transports these listeners through the landscape of this “brave new world”. A MarsMusic world.

Their performances are generous and full of heart. They give everything of themselves.

This band is one to be watched. It represents a whole new wave of music: one that is inspired by love and compassion, and one that is driven by a strong desire to heal the suffering of the world. This is heart music.

Voices Of The Day are a community choir based In Leeds, with members hailing from far and wide. The choir was founded in early 2010 by Cleve Freckleton (former frontman of ‘Chunky Butt Funky’) and a collective of musicians from the Leeds scene inspired by the belief that music and song is something that can be shared by all, and that by coming together as a community and family and reaching out and supporting one another, great things can be achieved.

Since its first performance at The Headingley Music Festival in 2010, the choir have built an extensive repertoire of pop soul and funk classics, and through the open door policy of having no auditions has grown to over 100 members and counting. Voices Of The Day is simply about singing for the love of singing. Over the last year the choir have performed in numerous established music venues in the Leeds area, as well as The Halifax Piece Hall and are thrilled to be returning to play The Limetree Festival again this year. Voices Of The Day can be summed up in the following four words: Uplifting, Soulful, Heartfelt and Relevant. Come, share in the abundant energy and joy and be a part of a new movement!

A seven piece Soul / Funk / Hip Hop band based in Birmingham. Established in 2010, GC offer a Jazzy take on the Hip Hop Band concept. With the band consisting of a fusion of Hip Hop heads, to classically trained Jazz musicians, their style blends honest, feel good lyrics with funk rhythms to get your head nodding, your mind thinking and your feet moving. Inspired by Bonobo, The Roots, The Bamboos and TY to name a few, Genius Collective aim to hit the scene soulfully with their distinctive sound. We have and are due to support Scroobius Pip, Matt Horne (Gavin & Stacey), Elaquent (Canadian Producer) & Jimmy Davis (Ed Sheeran collaborator) along with others in the near future.

Our debut EP, entitled E=GC2, is a 9 track project illustrating our wide ranging influences, and true skill as musicians to bring together everyone’s style and make it merge into 10 perfectly formed pieces. With each member being well established in their own music scenes in various forms, and all being associated with not playing and creating but teaching music in someway, Genius Collective are as passionate about their local community as they are about recording and performing. With a low budget, high quality mentality, the music has been pain stakingly crafted by producer Vice (James Kennaby), who created the band in January 2010, alongside Keys player Bonez (Matt Salmon), with the intention of crafting a Jazzy, Funky Hip Hop sound that was yet to be heard in Birmingham’s urban landscape.

The Tom Hollister Trio have ex-Guns n’Roses boss Alan Niven to thank for the meteoric rise to fame they’re currently experiencing.

The man who gave Axl and co their big break saw YouTube clips of 19-year-old guitarist Chris Buck playing covers of the Police and Eric Clapton, and labelled him “the best up-and-coming guitarist this century.”

That led to the Trio, who only got together in February, being signed by Niven. It looks like there’s plenty more to come from the Welsh three-piece – especially when you factor in that Sonisphere was just the seventh-ever gig played by Buck, Tom Hollister and Adam Roberts.

Buck says: “It’s fantastic that Alan stumbled across me from all the millions of guitarists on YouTube. He’s said a lot of nice things about me and it’s fantastic to hear.

“But I’m just trying to do a job. I kind of base my playing style on Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn, but there are a lot of players I idolise.”

Playing to the Knebworth festival did give singer Hollister some concerns. He says: “The band ahead of us were really heavy so we were a bit frightened playing blues to the same crowd.

“We made no bones about the fact we’re a blues band, although we did a slightly heavier set than usual. People appreciated it – they chilled out and enjoyed us, so it was great.”

The band are working on heading to the States to hook up with Niven and play some shows with other bands, and are looking forward to securing a support slot with a more established act.
