Circus Envy

Circus Envy

Circus Envy are an alternative-folk band formed in Hull in 2005. Featuring a line-up of primarily acoustic instruments, they add a traditional sensibility to their intricately crafted harmony-led modern songs with use of bouzouki, mandolin and cajon.

In 2010, the band released an EP – “A New Dawn” – produced by Stu Hanna (Megson, Show of Hands) which reached the HMV Folk CD Top 40 and received critical praise, including positive reviews (and front page coverage) in R2 and Maverick magazines. The track “Three Score and Ten” received significant BBC airplay, including Mike Harding’s Folk show on BBC Radio 2.

The EP led to the band playing at the Oxford and Beverley Folk Festivals and support slots with artists including Jim Moray, Megson, Iain Matthews (Fairport Convention) and Belshazzer’s Feast. The band was also selected for a pivotal role in the third movement of the BBC’s “A Symphony For Yorkshire” Project, leading to national radio and TV exposure. 2011 sees the band launch a single, “Regret”, in January ahead of a full length release in the Spring.
