a.h.a.b.

a.h.a.b.

A chance meeting between two talented songwriters who were both performing at a central London music venue saw the creation of a.h.a.b. an alternative/country duo who are Callum Adamson and Dave Burn. Both of these young songwriters have grown from musical backgrounds. Their upbringing giving them every encouragement to develop their craft. Their music is of a style away from the middle ground, yet their songs have a unique sound and take on a maturity far beyond their years. They are very much left of centre producing songs that are instantly recognisable as a.h.a.b.

This belief of boundless music keeps them hard to pigeonhole, with diverse arrangements of orchestral tympanis to trance sirens breaking through in their songs.

Belinda O’Hooley
& Heidi Tidow

Belinda O'Hooley & Heidi Tidow

Folk, rock, contemporary classical, plus a touch of comedy have all been used to describe the music of Belinda O’Hooley.  In reality, her performances contain all this plus much more.  Belinda is best known as the songwriter and pianist in Mercury Prize nominated folk band Rachel Unthank & the Winterset. Belinda will be joined on stage by the velvety-voiced Heidi Tidow. Together, they combine a well-crafted songbook, interweaving sublime harmonies, with a touch of (very funny) northern banter.

Carlyle Group

Carlyle Group

Carlyle Group return to Limetree after a show stopping set in 08. They came about in late 2007 when 4 friends decided to get together and play music influenced by such greats as Radiohead, Joy Division and Nine Inch Nails to try and do something a bit different. The result is a new take on alt rock with post punk soundscapes, a bit of shoegaze and the occasional industrial heaviness. They are gauranteed to grab your attention and make you stop and listen.

DJ Jim Heb

Northern Soul

The northern soul movement is cited by many as being a significant step towards the creation of contemporary club culture and the development of the superstar DJ culture of the 2000s. One technique employed by northern soul DJs in common with their later counterparts was the sequencing of records to create euphoric highs and lows for the crowd. Many argue that northern soul was instrumental in creating a network of clubs, DJs, record collectors and dealers in the UK, and was the first music scene to provide the British charts with records that sold entirely on the strength of club play. A regular at Wgan Casino and the Blackpool Mecca Jim Hebb can boast a lifelong love of collecting rare and underplayed soul and he will be treating us to his unique blend of Soulful delights for your pleasure.

The Gillyflowers

The Gillyflowers

Something disarming happens when The Gillyflowers floral-frocked front-woman Kirsten Adamson stops singing. One minute she's belting out her home-grown country-soul laments with a voice that recalls Lone Justice era Maria McKee tempered with the bottle-blonde wisdom of Dolly Parton. The next Adamson is introducing electric guitarist Phil Hopwood as "the fastest fingers in Easter Road" in an east coast of Scotland brogue that's as guilelessly unreconstructed as the waltz-time twang and late-night heart-break which fuels her oeuvre. Adamson is daughter of the late Stuart Adamson, the driving force behind Big Country but she is already more than capable of standing on her own merits.

Mik Artistik

Mik Artistik

A chance occurrence in a folk club in Leeds in which Mik got up and did a 20 minute version of “How much is that Doggy in the Window” stirred the performer in him and for week after week he’d turn up to deliver some bizarre little song often improvised. He got to Edinburgh in 1997 and was runner up to Peter Kay in the Channel 4 “So you think you are funny” competition. He's had a brief appearance in Phoenix Nights. In 2002 he got in with some funky Leeds musicians who knew him from his occasional disruptive appearances on the Jazz nights at the Wardrobe in Leeds. Since then 3 albums have ensued and a variety of gigs which included Glastonbury, Faust support, winning King Gong at the Comedy Store in Manchester, getting the latest album played on Rock.FM, a little film on YouTube of Mik had over 5,000 hits in just over 1 month and this year more festivals and a support slot with Chumbawumba. Part comedian, singer, painter and performance artist - Mik Artistik is unpredictable, unnerving and with the tendency to incorporate his audience in the act, impossible to ignore.

It's hard to describe your own music but then again we're not trying to re-invent the wheel, all music contains elements of thievery but at the same time i'd say we're pretty original and have an entertaining sound".
